Spring is popping out all over........

A few of the plants that are putting on a show in the back garden. All of the plants are in the oldest bed that is located around the cherry tree. As a matter of fact these plants were the first plantings at Beech Street when the property was purchased in 1990. This flower bed was established the following year.

Acer and Hostas

Grafted Fernleaf Full Moon Maple that I bought a couple of years ago. I lost interest in Bonsai after that, but I love the tree so I stuck it in a pot and added the Hosta. Perfect companions..........Wish I could remember what the Hosta is that I planted in there. I will have to work on the tree a little to bring it back to a better shape. Maybe it will inspire me to get back to Bonsai, NOT.

Fabulous Plant Sale

Saturday morning before work I went to the Leach Botanical Garden Sale at Floyd Light Middle School. As always there are great plants to see and purchase. First tables to hit are the Leach Garden, many of the plants are from the garden itself that volunteers have potted up for the sale. Picked up a nice 5" pot of 6 yellow Trout Lilies (Erythronium americanum) at an awesome price of $4.00. Next table was Humble Roots Nursery located in Mosier, owned and operated by Andrew and Kristen, they specialize in drought tolerant native plants of the Columbia River Gorge and Pacific Northwest. I have purchased from them over the years and a nursery worth the time to see what sales they will be at. From them I purchased a one gallon Golden Current (Ribes aureum), it will have beautiful yellow flowers which turn to delightful berries, reaching a height of 6 to 8' and about 5 to 6' width. Looking forward to this shrub growing and producing fruit. Next I hit Sebright Gardens for Hostas.........the plant I have the most variates of at Beech Street Gardens than any other plant species. I purchased two one gallon plants of Earth Angel and White Ray. Somewhere along the sale I picked up an Agave Americana v. marginata and a little 3" pot of Allium oreophilum. That was it since I only had about 40 minutes to shop, but well worth the time to go.
