Kind of a toss up on where I wanted to post this entry. I just received this 1939 vintage seed packet from another collector of paper items. Its so great to chat with others, you just never now what you might end up with. To bad there were no seeds, I would have given it a try.
This packet is from Germain Seed and Plant Co. in Los Angeles, California.
Click on the company name above and you will be taken to the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden to see more vintage items from this nursery and other nurseries in that area.
What a fabulous piece of artwork! (I consider it as such, I guess not everyone would). BTW way back in October I mentioned agave seeds that I wanted to give you because I am a seed failure...well it turns out I did actually sow them all...so I have none left to share. Lame. I am sorry.
ReplyDeleteThe real question is do you have little baby Agaves? If no, then it is lame.......
DeleteLame x 10. You don't want to know. Just console yourself with the fact that all of this happened last year before we had that conversation. Next time I know better.
DeleteEpic! I love these vintage finds! That is too cool! Do you frame them?
ReplyDeleteNo I keep all that kind of stuff mounted in binders so I can take it to collectible paper shows. Some dealers have no clue as to the items that I'm looking for sometimes.
DeleteLove the colours & picture, although the old cowboy looks kinda cheesy. I mean, did he collect the seeds himself? Lol. 1939 - wow, the packet would have smelt nice! :)
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across the Green Horror & it reminded me of you. Hope you like it! :)

ReplyDeleteThose now-retro graphics of wild west cactus seed, candy, etc. were such a part of life down here for tourists and even gifts. Maybe the "urban" farmer-chicken-goat-farm to table-hipsters in SW cities will catch on and sell new offerings that catch onto the old, like what you show?
